A Saturday afternoon matinee, featuring Buster Keaton’s 1928 silent film “The Cameraman,” accompanied by organist Robert Humphreville, with Q&A and refreshments to follow
Robert Humphreville is a freelance pianist and organist. For the past fifty years, he has accompanied silent movies on piano and organ all over New England, and the Boston Globe has praised him for his inventive improvisations. A composer of independent film scores, he has also been active in the music programs of Brooks School in North Andover; Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge; Bethany Convent in Arlington; the Society of St. John the Evangelist in Cambridge; the Apollo Club in Boston; and Temple Isaiah in Lexington. He graduated from Harvard in 1980 and splits his time between Cambridge and New London, Connecticut.
In this silent classic from 1928, photographer Buster (Buster Keaton) meets Sally, who works as a secretary for the newsreel department at MGM, and falls hard. Trying to win her attention, Buster abandons photography in order to become a news cameraman. In spite of his early failures with a motion camera, Sally takes to him as well. However, veteran cameraman Stagg also fancies Sally, meaning Buster will need to learn how to film quickly before he loses his job. Following the film we will have an opportunity to talk with Robert about how he does this wonderful thing, share some refreshments, and socialize.
For attendees a minimum donation of $25 per person is requested, and larger donations are much appreciated. Donors of $500 or more are listed on this page and will be listed in the event progam as Sponsors of the event.
Become a Donor
We rely on public support to further our mission and concert activities. Your donation - of any amount - is greatly appreciated!
The purposes of The Spectrum Singers include bringing the gift of wonderful live music to our audiences, preserving and enhancing our cultural inheritance, and giving our chorus members opportunities to grow, and serve our audiences. We want to get better at each of these over time as we find ways to improve our performances and our venues, grow and renew our audience, learn and perform additional pieces, improve our talents, and attract a new generation of singers.
We have a long-term view that extends decades into the future. For years our average spending has been slightly less than our income; we aim to continue carefully to base our expenditures on our income.
Donations have averaged 53% of income. Ticket sales and dues from members are most of the rest. We are grateful to those who make our work possible. We like to acknowledge you. We celebrate your generosity. As you give, we can do more toward fulfilling our purposes.
All donors are recognized in our concert programs unless they wish to remain anonymous:

Become a Volunteer
Be an Usher. We’re seeking ushering volunteers for our May 20 concert, Magnificent Mozart. Ushers work from 7-10 pm, may invite a companion to attend the concert with them, and can get a free parking voucher. Send an email to concertushers@gmail.com if you’re interested.
Join our Board of Directors. Our board is comprised of volunteers: members of our chorus and members of the greater Boston community. To continue growing and operating as a professional chorus, we depend on our volunteers, from Board positions to helping with mailings and administrative tasks to concert set-up and publicity.
Currently we are seeking two volunteers to fill new Board positions. Please reach out to us if you are interested in learning more.
